Staying Grounded
As I had mentioned, the last couple of weeks have been filled with a lot of outside pressure. Nothing too intense. Just a lot. I went through a whole tank of gas in 5 days the week before which is a lot for me and indicative of the running around I did.
The easiest and least intrusive technique I use to stay grounded when I’m being pulled in lots of directions is to feel my feet. Truly. That is all I do. I say in my head “feel my feet”, and I stand in what we would call Tadasana in yoga class, but for those of you not familiar with that term, it is just standing with your feet hip width apart and even with each other. Engage the muscles in your legs and imagine you can make yourself heavier. Almost like you are pushing the floor down. Then let yourself feel taller. Let you head reach up and the shoulders move down away from the back of your head. Look out into the distance and take a few breaths.
You can add some things to this as well. Notice the weather without judging it. If it is windy feel the wind. If it is cold, feel the cold. If the sun is out, feel the sun. Listen to all the sounds. Notice what you see and what you smell. Notice if you have a taste in your mouth.
All this takes 1 minute of your time. If you can take more time great, and even a minute will help.
One of the biggest gifts I gave myself the last two weeks was going to bed early and at the same time every day. I also took a melatonin and pit oil on my feet so I was sure I would get sleep. That was amazing. Sleep is amazing. Nd if you are having trouble sleeping, let me know. Ayurveda and Yoga have some really nice ways to help you prepare for sleep. I am still offering private sessions so feel free to reach out to set up an initial consultation or follow up.
